Biddle Physical Agility Test (BPAT)

During the Biddle, you’ll move through a predetermined course, progressing from one event to the next continuously. Workout clothes and athletic shoes are recommended. Participants will wear a turnout coat, firefighting helmet, structure firefighting gloves, and an SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus); the testing site will provide all required equipment. You’ll have 9 minutes and 34 seconds to complete all eleven tasks.

WHAT IS THE AGE REQUIREMENT?

Applicants must be 18 years of age and must show government issued photo identification (i.e. drivers license, school, or military ID; or a passport or visa). Candidates without a photo ID will not be allowed to take the BPAT.

Will my Biddle Certificate expire?

Your BPAT certification is valid for 12 months from the date you pass the test. You’ll need to provide proof of a current, valid BPAT during the Field Investigation portion of the LAFD selection process and again at the time of certification for hiring consideration.

Free Biddle practices are now offered every Wednesday at Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by the LAFD Firefighter Recruitment Section.
